Cemetery Tour

Jay came to visit us a the weekend before Thanksgiving. One of the things he really wanted to do while he was here was go on a Cemetery Tour in New Orleans. If you know anything about Michael then you know he does not like anything scary! We convinced him this would not be a scary tour and we picked one during the day. It of course did not help his nerves when we got to the meeting place and the stickers we had to put on said Haunted Cemetery Tours! Our tour guide was really cool and seemed to like his job and the history of New Orleans really well. When we got to the cemetery it was such a cool sight...all the tombs are above ground. It is the only way people are burried in New Orleans since the ground is so wet. The tour guide told us, back in the day, it was not uncommon to see your loved ones floating in the streets after a large thunderstorm! The tombs are very impressive. I wish I had a wide lense on my camera so you can see all of it. This is the best picture I could get. Luckily for Michael the tour ended up being very informative and not scary at all!

Voodoo Queen

This is Marie Laveau's tomb. You can read the picture below to see what she was all about. The crazy thing about this tomb is all of the writting on it. They say if you put three x's on the tomb and say a little prayer to her then she will answer it. If she does answer it, then you come back and circle the x's. It was so crazy to know that people really do believe in Voodoo. Our guide told us this grave is the second most visited grave in the US. Next only to JFK's grave and right before Elvis' grave!

The New Orleans Aquarium

Madison got to come visit us in New Orleans for a day. We really enjoyed getting to see her. We went and saw an Imax show about fish. Madison was so cute she kept trying to catch the fish and she even hit the lady's head that was sitting in front of her!

Madison was with her Mimi and Papa Art. They were visiting her Uncle Chris in Mississippi.

This is the church Brandon and Michael will be pastoring. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to take over a church that has already been started. They do not have many faithful members, but they do have a store front building they meet in and all of the furniture is included! Our first official Sunday is this one coming up. Please pray that the Lord blesses this ministry and Michael and Brandon.

Hurricane Katrina 2007

Sherry came to visit us in September. We wanted to take her to New Orleans and on our way to the car, it started thundering really loud. We sent Michael to run to the car and Sherry and I tried to hide under a little shelter. It rained so hard we were not even protected by the water. So....we decided to make a run for the car as well. The water was so high, it was up to my calves! We had to ride in the car for over 30 minutes before we could change our clothes. We looked like we just got out of the shower with our clothes on!
